I was raised by an old man whose common sense and acquired wisdom enabled him to cut through the nonsense and simplify every situation with a simply analogy> My great-great uncle was born in 1883 and so has been dead for nearly forty years, but I can hear his voice and imagine what he would have to say about the Democrat versus Republican government shutdown going on right now. My uncle would have said the Republicans are running the car into the ditch, with the car being the U.S. economy and the drivers the Democrats and Republicans; the ditch, of course means the car is not even on the road any longer. I tend to agree with that analogy because it is one thing for two opposing sides to pull against each other to assure a common balance that is representative of the people served; in this case, I don’t think the majority of either group wants the U.S. government to ‘shut down’ and just quit working.
The proverbial car is definitely deep in the ditch.
There has reportedly been over 12 government shutdowns (http://www.voanews.com/content/history-of-us-government-shutdowns/1760973.html ) with the longest (21 days) and costliest one (over $1 billion) occurring during the Clinton administration. The cost of running the car into the ditch….could cost billions of dollars…$$$
